Career Industry Day Oct 21 2014
Some words about that day:
On behalf of the Yosemite High School GTEC class, I would like to thank Mr. Johnson, Ms. Gonzales, Mr. Her, Carlos and all the staff support that made our Career Industry Day possible. Many students from our school got the chance to experience a job fair for the first time. Their responses to the experiences were very exciting to see and many students expressed that they were not aware of the different job pathways available to high school and Jr College graduates. As a school, we are looking forward to our own Career Day in the spring, and as a class, we offer our full support with many student expressing their willingness to volunteer in order to have a successful job event in the spring.
Thanks again for making our students day!
Mr. Boykin
Below are some student comments about their Career Industry Day experience.
Josh: Dear Mr. Johnson, I would like to give you the thanks and appreciation for letting us go on the field trip. There were many exhibits that gave us information on particular subjects from agriculture to technical institutions.
Mason: I really enjoyed the radiology booth. I learned a lot about the responsibilities of an x ray technician and the benefits and wages they get paid. I think this may be a future job for me.
Arturo: I got a lot of information from PG&E and they gave me a free water bottle. It was exciting to run in to PG&E. PG&E is a utility company and they own and operate our electric grid. PG&E has many green job opportunities.
Anthony: The marine booth was calling me because they were having a pull up challenge. The Challenge was to do 5 pull ups with a weight vest on, of course, I knocked it out of the park and did twenty pull ups.
Ricardo: Dear Mr. Johnson, I enjoyed talking with the computer programmers to automobile technicians at the career day. I appreciate everything and it answered most of my questions for a future job for me. Hopefully we get a 3D printer to use in class. That would be real job training.
Adam: The field trip exposed me to many different jobs and many different wages. I enjoyed the speech the millionaire gave, it was very inspirational. It helped me realize that anyone can be successful if you work hard.
Ashley: Dear Mr. Johnson, thank you for giving us the opportunity to visit the job fair. It was very informational, I also got to speak with a lady from Fremont hospital. She is a LVN (License Vocational Nurse) and gave me some good advice. I also enjoyed meeting new people and speaking to a variety of industry representatives from aviation, bank, medical and city of Merced.
Dennis: I really enjoyed talking to the truck driver because he provided a lot of information I didn’t know about truck drivers. Truck drivers earn a lot of money and I might do that right after high school. I also enjoyed meeting new people.
Cristian: I really enjoyed the field trip because it was very informational. The job fair offered many typed of job opportunities and info about all the industries that had booths at the fair. I really liked the 3D printing and computer programming.
Ethan: I enjoyed meeting Jason Lucash because it was inspiring to hear about how he became successful and his experience on Shark Tank. I’ll be a multi-millionaire someday too.
Brant: I enjoyed the job fair very much because of all the useful information I was able to collect, I have a new perspective on the available variety of jobs.
Isaiah: Thank you Mr. Johnson and Ms. Gonzales for letting us go to carrier day. There was a lot of carriers that I would have never thought of like PG&E or truck driving. I asked all of them what I needed to apply, they all said all I needed was a high school diploma. So I am planning to graduate high school and I am a lot less nervous about what I want to do after high school because I know there are a lot more jobs and careers than you might think of.
Jairo: The field trip showed me that there were a lot of career day job options. I learned that fire fighters communicate through head phones because it is too loud in their trucks to hear each other. I also learned that cars can run just on sunlight and electricity.
Jiovani: The field trip showed many job opportunities that you can take such as art, cars, mechanics, dj. Many of these careers need a collage diploma or high school diploma. I will get my high school diploma in order to get a paying job.
Erich: I enjoyed the field trip because it showed me how many different jobs are out there, another thing I enjoyed was the technology that was there. The 3D printer and robot was cool to me because I have never seen one before and to see one in action was even cooler. I also liked how much info the people provided at each booth, and how they told me I only needed a high school degree.
Nathan: My favorite booth was the paramedics because he told me about the equipment they use on a daily basis, I also got strapped down by nurses to check my vital signs.
Melody: At the field trip I learned many things like, job opportunities and options about jobs that I haven’t known about. I really enjoyed talking to the college speakers and talkers, they had answers for questions I had as well. I was really interested in dog training booth because they had wonderful information like the shortest time they trained a dog was nine weeks, and also they train any dog, any size and any breed. I wish I could have stated longer and asked questions more and check out the other booths. The field trip was neat and educational. Thank you Mr. Johnson and Ms. Gonzales I made up my mind about jobs.
